Early Years Curriculum
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum that sets high standards for the learning, development and
care of children from birth to 5 years old. This is the curriculum that all state UK schools follow. There are seven areas of
learning and development. These are all interconnected by cross curricular learning but are divided into two sections: The Prime Areas & The Specific Areas
The Prime Areas
These are the areas which are crucial in promoting the children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.
COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE
Children are provided with opportunities to develop their speaking and listening skills.
PERSONAL, SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT
Supporting children to develop a positive sense of themselves and others to form positive respectful relationships.
PHYSICAL
DEVELOPMENT
Opportunities are provided for the children to be active in order to develop their coordination, control and movement.
The Specific Areas
These are the areas which are used to strengthen and support the prime areas.
In all classrooms the children are given access to a wide range of resources, such as books, songs, rhymes and other written materials to help them to begin reading and writing independently.
The children are guided to make sense of their physical world and the environment they live in by exploring, observing and finding out about people, places and technology.
Opportunities are provided for the children to develop and practise their skills in counting num-bers, performing simple calculations and to describe shapes, space and measures.
Teachers support children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials in a variety of activities including art, music, movement, dance, role-play and stories.
